Dear Friend,
This was in an email we received in March about a feral (wild) cat named, appropriately, Oscar Wild. Oscar Wild’s caretaker was not a cat person when he initially came across him. However, he was quickly charmed by Oscar Wild’s charisma and started leaving food and water out for him. He then realized what great companions cats are and decided he would like to have a feline companion in his home. Since Oscar Wild was feral and not suited for an indoor-only life, his caretaker went to a local humane society and adopted not one, but two cats to call his own. Oscar Wild had saved the lives of two cats that otherwise might well have been killed for lack of space in that shelter!
Later in the spring, upon returning home from work, Oscar Wild’s caretaker saw him brutally attacked by another, much larger, feral cat. Before he could get to him, though, Oscar’s right shoulder and elbow had been stripped of fur and he had suffered multiple cuts. His caretaker took him to a vet immediately and he was patched up, neutered, vaccinated and tested. No small price to pay for a feral cat, but as his caretaker wrote, “…Oscar Wild is worth every penny.”
Then the unthinkable happened. After recovering and being returned to his outdoor life, Oscar Wild was attacked again by the same cat. It was the same leg, only this time much worse. Oscar was leaving a trail of blood wherever he went, his muscle tissue clearly exposed. It took Oscar’s caretaker 2 nights just to coax him into a carrier. By the time he got him to the vet, Oscar Wild was weak and delirious.
“The vet could not find enough skin to close the wound completely so they wrapped his paw in a bandage and said he had to stay indoors…”
This is when Oscar’s caretaker reached out to us. We were tight on space at the time, but how could we let Oscar be subjected to such a cruel life again? He needed a safe, loving environment where his wounds would have as much time as needed to heal and where he could stop looking over his shoulder every other second.
“I love Oscar Wild. But I know what Oscar’s fate would be if he’s left outside”
We agreed to take Oscar Wild in and give him the forever home he so desperately needed. To our surprise and delight, Oscar is becoming quite a friendly guy! It is not unusual for ferals who have gone through great trauma to “soften up” towards the humans who are now his friends. We may even find him a loving home of his own! In the meantime, Oscar Wild’s home is at Heaven on Earth. His wounds are healing well, and he will never again have to scrounge for food or shelter.
It is only because of your past and future help that we are able to help cats like Oscar Wild. It’s been a while since we’ve reached out to you for your financial support and we hope that you can help us continue to care for Oscar Wild and his new friends with a generous gift now.
Sincerely Yours,

P.S. If you wondering about that vicious feral cat that attacked Oscar Wild, our SpayShip Transport Program volunteers are still trying to trap him to get him neutered. Once he’s neutered, it will be much less likely that he will commit any further aggressive acts!
